The world's beloved pizza-eating heroes are making their way to Magic: The Gathering. The well-known trading card game's publisher, the game's creators, unveiled a highly anticipated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles expansion at a exclusive panel hosted at NYCC. Could this be a exciting addition or yet another crossover cash grab? We'll let you decide.
Check out below at everything announced from the Magic x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set, along with key context. All items listed below launches on March 6, 2026, except for one item — a special Pizza Bundle drops a couple of weeks after on March 27th.
Before diving into the many unique products and bundles available, we’ll examine at all the cards from the core Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles expansion that were revealed by Wizards. Play boosters for the set are set at $6.99 per pack, while Collector Boosters are priced at $37.99 per booster.
Let’s explore a few surprising details. To begin, a new gameplay mechanic named Sneak, which is a riff on the pre-existing Ninjutsu ability, where players can play big creatures into the game field when an attacker goes unblocked. The key change here is that this new ability can affect non-creature spells as well. Wizards also used this chance to refine the ability a little (Sneak counts as playing a spell, as opposed to the older mechanic). Ninjutsu is staying, but chances are players will encounter the new mechanic in upcoming expansions moving forward.
Should we were to return to the Kamigawa plane, we might use Ninjutsu because that plane is it originated and it is iconic of that world,” a senior game designer explained. “However in other settings, because the mechanics are smoother and the new ability will be in standard, it’s probable we’ll use Sneak.”
Another version of the leader Turtle, Sewer Samurai card, is one of four cards with unique artwork created specifically for the expansion by TMNT co-creator the co-creator.
Oh, and, if you're shocked by the rules text on Turtles Forever card, which lets you play game cards that aren't in your main deck, so was I. Yet according to Wizards, that's now a legal card in all formats of Magic.
Anyway, here are the highly unusual land cards with full art from the TMNT set:
As per Wizards of the Coast's existing guidelines, all these cards are fully legal in Magic’s Standard play. Developers say they took care to ensure the cards and mechanics worked smoothly with other Standard sets like Edge of Eternities.
“I led the development for 15 months and we knew it would be in standard and what other sets were going to be near it in standard,” a lead designer commented. “Our goal was to ensure that there's synergy with some of those sets including Edge of Eternities.”
As an instance, both TMNT and Edge of Eternities include a Izzet strategy built around artifact cards.
“They combine to provide the pieces for a enjoyable Standard-legal deck,” the designer added.
Following a decision to design any Commander precons for Spider-Man and the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender expansions, Wizards is changing direction with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This time it’s just a single precon, but it does come with six different legendary creatures that can serve as your commander based on how you combine them (five of the cards have a special Partner mechanic named “Character Select” that allows starting with two commanders in the command zone rather than only one). Take a look below:
This Commander deck is set at $69.99, though the price may rise due to demand. Wizards told that it includes 43 brand-new cards altogether, which translates to an extra thirty-seven TMNT-themed cards besides the six legendary creatures pictured above. (Doing some rough math, that also means approximately 20 reprints if we estimate the precon comes with 37 lands.)
What will the TMNT version of Sol Ring look like? We’ll just have to wait and see.
As per usual, the company is selling a collection. This one costs $69.99 and contains the following:
Here’s a special idea for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set, primarily because it is packaged in what looks like a pizza box. Each pizza-themed bundle is priced at $99.99 and comes with the items below:
If you’re wondering about the “Pizza Bundle promo card” means, it’s essentially a reprint of an older card with all-new TMNT art. The team showed an example for the popular Magic card Dark Ritual depicting master Splinter sprinkling toppings on a pizza slice. There are six distinct Pizza Bundle promo cards in total.
This special bundle launches a couple of weeks later than the main set on March 27, 2026.
This unique product is designed for a four-person draft and is priced at $119.99. It includes:
Finally, the developers are doing something new with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as part of its continued initiative to create Magic game products specifically for beginners. In this case, the cooperative set is a special set of decks that let you and a friend team up to face a “Boss” deck that pilots itself.
The general idea here that every Boss card gives unique powers to the creature cards included in the boss deck. The Boss automatically casts an additional card per turn, and players begin fighting {one Boss|
