In the episode, a look back discloses that popular character Alastor, the Radio Demon was a mass murderer in his human life. Being aware he was destined for Hell, he made contact with the afterlife in advance to secure a strong position there. The charismatic leader, the charismatic leader the cannibal faction in Hell, promised Alastor he would become “the strongest Sinner in Hell” in exchange for his soul.

This prompts the question: How is Rosie sufficiently strong to raise Alastor above every other Demonic Sinners?

“The Rosie and Alastor deal is the initial building block in a much bigger story that encompasses so much, leading into the third season,” the showrunner states. “Clearly that is a perfect question: How is she that powerful? The solution could be various factors, but the revelation is in season 3. I'm very excited for fans to see it.”

It is uncertain the duration the audience will have to wait for Hazbin Hotel’s third season. The studios have green-lit seasons 3 and 4, but the creator frequently notes that animation is a slow, lengthy process, and subsequent seasons have no release dates yet. Still, she states holding off on those details is an important part of keeping the second season's attention in the right places.

“The difficulty of any kind of deal with infernal beings, or narratives that have mysteries, is giving the audience just enough information to be like, Something's up here, and then revealing that as we go, and allowing that be satisfying,” she says. “So I'm very excited.”

Questions Answered in Season 3

The creator promises that season 3 will address the questions followers have been posing, such as why the cannibal leader ordered Alastor to vanish for seven years, which weakened his influence in the infernal realm.

“The whole seven years, and the pacts these individuals are doing, and all that — it's feeding into a bigger narrative,” she says.

In the meantime, the origin story episode offers another glimpse into how the main characters of Demonic Sinners appeared as as mortals, the second after seeing another character's Victorian-era mortal appearance in the second episode. She says that significant consideration was put into the visual creation of these forms.

“The human versions of these personas carry so much weight,” she says. “They range from appearing quite distinct from their demon form to seeming very similar. With Pentious, the initial design we see, there was some internal discussion within the team between going with a design that symbolizes the character, versus selecting something that's very time-period accurate. We leaned toward making a design that just felt like it was him.”

She mentions the primary controversy over Pentious’ human design was his lengthy locks: “We were like, ‘No one typically had long hair of that style in that historical period.’ But at the same time, we think the outline is extremely crucial, and we also just felt he looked good. We were like, ‘This just feels right.’ We sort of gave the excuse that he's a hermit, so he just let his hair grow out. So there's always a way. As we create the human versions of these personas […] it's such a fun thing to investigate and determine. I'm excited for fans to see more of the appearances of the human versions.”
